Patrick Sughrue, Sustainable Building Advisor, has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry, having been personally involved in myriad aspects of construction from concrete, framing, HVAC and electrical to plumbing and solar. Patrick has been trained in the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, the Oregon High Performance Home, and the Living Building Challenge, and in the Passive House certification training.
Most importantly we are here to help you realize your dream.

With a personal history of working on energy conservation and renewable energy projects dating back to the 1970s, including work on BPA’s Hood River Conservation Project in the Columbia Gorge in the 1980’s, Patrick Sughrue founded Structures NW in 2003 to assist clients in more easily incorporating a broad range of energy efficient and high performance products and methods into their construction projects. After the 2008 Recession the name was changed to Artisan Tiny House LLC. We specialize in working with Owner Builders on smaller simpler Structures. Cabins, Cottages Studios of all kinds and homes around 1200 SF or less. For the last several years we have gained a following in the Tiny House on Wheels camp but we still help folks with lots of projects with foundations too.

We want to see your building project be a resounding success.
Think of us as your building coach. You have a dream of building a structure of some kind. We have developed a step by step system that is designed to make it happen.

We assist in drawing a plan that will work with your site and budget. We help you select the best building materials for your energy efficiency goals, help you find the right team to assemble your building and help you to do as much work on your project as you want.

Although we work with progressive builders and other designers and architects our greatest joy is working with owner builders and seeing them take their ideas from a dream to reality.

How we do it is simple:

We start with your idea and line it up with one of our design templates.
Our templates have much of the design and engineering already done. We then integrate your inspiration and your knowledge of your building site into the template, by arranging the windows and doors to fit your needs.
If you already have a full set of working drawings that is OK too.

We then work with you to select the best products to build the envelope of your structure. We use Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) and Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs), because they are easy to work with, assemble quickly and are affordable. After that we help you along the 26 steps in our system to help you complete your project.

We have honed our building system for clients who want to build their own structure. With many years of proven success. We take the very complex project of constructing a building and break it down into understandable parts. Our clients come to us at different steps along the path. Some have just a sketch and other have land and a well developed plan. No matter where you start we can plug you into the system and help you succeed. Our greatest joy comes from helping a client go from an idea that they want to build something, to standing in the drive and seeing their dream a reality.

we use Structural Insulated Panels(SIPs)

We also use Insulated Concrete Forms for basements and some foundations (ICFs)
